PeaceBuilders at Somerset
Somerset parents have consistently rated the PeaceBuilders program as a highly important PTSA program.
Our 2005-2006 PeaceBuilders committee is working to plan meaningful activities that teach students the PeaceBuilders character building principles, how to apply these principles, and how to make smart choices when confronted with conflict.
The PeaceBuilders principles and desired behaviors are outlined in the PeaceBuilders Pledge:
I am a PeaceBuilder, I Pledge…
* To praise people
* To give up put-downs
* To seek wise people
* To notice and speak up about hurts I have caused
* To right wrongs
* To help others
I will build peace at home, at school, and in my community each day.
PeaceBuilders is an internationally recognized and award winning program. It provides a way to teach our children violence
prevention and desired behaviors as well as educating them on social skills and helping to build self confidence.
One wonderful feature of this program is that the children are the everyday heroes, the agents of change. They have
the power to help improve their environment. Small acts can multiply and bring big rewards. For more information,
go to www.peacebuilders.com.
In the past the PeaceBuilders Committee has organized activities including learning the PeaceBuilders Song, the PeaceBuilders Pledge, signs and banners, essay contests, Fifth Grade Peace Coaches on the playground, workbooks,
student/staff skits and guest assemblies, Peace bracelets, and classroom projects. Stay tuned for more details
and information this school year!
The loving guidance provided by parents is the biggest influence in teaching the values and behaviors represented
by the PeaceBuilders Program. Thank you for your continued support of the PeaceBuilders program!
