Festival of Cultures:  Display Board Ideas

Are you looking for a fun project to do over Spring Break? Make a display board about your native or favorite country for the Festival of Cultures! Your display board could include some or all of these topics:

  • Holidays

  • Foods

  • Weather

  • Homes and apartments

  • Hobbies

  • Music

  • Animals

  • School

  • Places to visit

  • Sports Toys and games

Tell about your native or favorite country in many ways*:

  • Draw pictures

  • Write down recipes

  • Food samples

  • Photographs

  • Flag

  • Map

  • Money/stamps

  • School work

  • Clothing

  • Any items you wish to display

*Please do not bring anything of value that cannot be easily replaced because items could get lost.

Make your display alone or team up with family or friends—and be sure to put your names and your teacher’s names on your display! Then bring your display to the Festival of Cultures on May 16 from 6-8pm in the gym. The first 25 people to contact Betsy Conyard at Conyard@comcast.net will be given a free display board to use for this project. Somerset has a richly diverse population that is worth celebrating! Join the fun on May 16 by participating in the Festival of Cultures!

Festival of Cultures

Save the Date! Somerset has a richly diverse population that is worth celebrating!

On May 16, 2006, 6:00-8:00pm in the gym, we will be holding our second annual Festival of Cultures and there will be many ways to participate and enjoy the event.

  • Color a flag or country costume! Blank forms will be sent home after Spring break. Every student who turns in a flag or costume from their native or favorite country will receive a prize and all entries will be displayed at the Festival of Cultures.
  • Design a country display board! Single students, student groups or families can design a display board to tell the rest of the community about their native or favorite country. Display boards will be available at no cost to the first 25 participants and ideas for what to include on the display will be coming home soon. Boards will be displayed at the Festival of Cultures for all to enjoy.
  • Be part of an international costume parade! Students and adults are encouraged to wear native or favorite country costumes to the Festival of Cultures. A parade of costumes will start off the evening’s entertainment.
  • Share your talent! We need international performers and adults who can write in a language other than English to help at the event.
  • Come to the Festival of Cultures! Visit the display boards and name center, and enjoy a program of international entertainment.
  • Celebrate our diversity!

If you are interested in performing at the Festival of Cultures or can write in a language other than English--or if you have any questions about the event--please contact Betsy Conyrard or Harumi Lints.
