Book Fair Follow-Up and Thanks! |
|
Our Book Fair at University Book Store (the first off-site one we’ve had in years) was deemed a success
with $10,000 in sales! That translates to 15% (in cash) to 25% (in store credit) to buy books and supplies for the library.
Thank you to everyone who shopped, volunteered, provided entertainment by reading poetry, and was willing to try something
new with this important FUNdraiser! Please check the bottom paragraph of your receipt(s) to make sure it indicates funds
going to Somerset. Thanks! If it doesn't, please contact Mary Jo at
MaryJoHuelsemann@aol.com.
If you didn't have a chance to shop at the book fair
and still want to participate, you do have other opportunities:
-
You can buy University Book Store scrip in $10
increments and the PTSA earns 8%. Then, you can use the scrip (which
looks like a gift card) to make your own purchases, give as gifts,
give to your teacher for them to buy a book off their wish list,
etc. (Teachers receive a 20% discount at University Book Store on
purchases they make for their classroom.) Please email Mary Jo
Huelsemann with scrip orders .
-
Of course, you can buy a book off their wish
lists anytime, anywhere. The updated hard copy of the teachers' wish
lists will be in the library, so that teachers and parents can
update it periodically.
-
We're planning to have a mini book fair at the
school in conjunction with the "Young Poets" finale in late March.
More details on that to follow, but that also promises to be an
enjoyable "change of pace".
Thanks again to everyone (parents, teachers, staff and students) who participated and helped to make the book fair a success!

A week before the Book Fair, each student will receive a packet of vouchers for you, your friends, neighbors and families to use while shopping at the Book Fair. Simply present the voucher when checking out at the register and your purchase will automatically be counted toward the Somerset Book Fair total. It’s a great opportunity to do holiday and gift shopping while supporting Somerset. Somerset will earn a percentage of book fair sales during those 4 days, and includes not just books, but everything they have to sell in the store -- gifts, cards, Husky and Cougar apparel, art supplies, office supplies, etc. (Unfortunately, it does not include gift card sales.)
At the Book Fair, we will again be offering the opportunity to give the gift of reading through the Teacher/Classroom Wish List program. Just ask for a copy of any of the teachers’ wish lists at the Somerset volunteer table -- the titles are hand picked by each teacher as desired library selections for their classrooms. University Book Store staff and Somerset volunteers will be available to help find your selection(s), keep the wish lists updated, and personalize the bookplate(s). There will also be additional vouchers on hand. If you can’t attend, make a list of your own and consider asking someone to be your “personal shopper” – we have volunteers who will do that too!
