Q:  What is a "Silent Auction"?

A: Participants submit bids normally on paper, near the item. (Only) The highest bidder pays the price submitted.  All bids are made with a bid number... in most cases you will not know who you are bidding against.

Q: How many Silent Auctions will we have?

A: FOUR - Silent Auctions 1-3 are in the Wintergarden, and Super Silent 4 is in the ballroom--where the Live Auction will take place. All Silent Auctions open at 5:30; closing begins around 6:30 and every 15 minutes after that.  The Super Silent Auction closes some time DURING the Live auction.

Q: What is the "Dream Ticket"?

A:  There will be 100 Dream Tickets sold; they are $100 each--if 100 people buy, that is 10,000 for the school and ONE person gets to choose from ANY of the live auction items--so you could choose that Lodging package for a week in Tahoe that sleeps 18 which is worth $3,100 and you get it for $100.  The selling of this raffle will end after 100 are sold and/or right before the Live Auction begins.  You may purchase your Dream Ticket with your bid number.

Q: What is the 50/50 Raffle?

A: 50/50 Raffle Tickets are $10. You can buy as many tickets as you want. The winner of the raffle gets half of the proceeds and the school gets the other half. Say at the end of the raffle, we've collected $2000, if you win, you get $1000 and the school gets $1000.  You can (a) keep the money or (b) use it to pay for anything you buy during the auction.  You may purchase your raffle tickets with your bid number.

Q: What is a Bid Sheet?

A: A bid sheet is the printed form that sits on the table in front of each  Silent Auction Item. To make a bid on an item, simply write your bid number on the bid sheet on one of the blank lines on the sheet. Each line has an incremental bid amount next to it. When you write your bid number on a given line, you are committing to spend that amount of money for that item if you are the highest bidder (i.e. once somebody bids an amount higher than you, you are no longer committed to purchase the item).

Q: What is a "Guaranteed Bid"?

A: In the Silent Auction, if you do not want to be out-bid (beaten by another bidder willing to bid higher than you) write your bid number in the "GUARANTEED BID" box. This box has the highest possible bid for that item. Once you write your bid number in that box, no one can bid higher. You have guaranteed that you are the winning bidder for that item. Typically, the guaranteed bid is 150% of the cost of the item.

Q: How do I get a bid number?

A: When you CHECK IN you will be assigned a bid number.  All items are tracked by bid number (i.e. when you bid on a silent auction item, you will use your bid number -- not your name;  during the live auction, raise your bid number to bid on items).  When you CHECK OUT, all items you bid on during the evening should be listed by bid number.

Q: Do I need to bring CASH?

A: NO, we prefer that you used your credit card.  All bidding is done via Bid Number (see above) and at the end of the evening we will have the totals by Bid number; when you checkout you will be able to check your list and pay with your credit card, check or cash.

Q: Can I take my items home the night of the auction?

A: YES, during the live auction our volunteers will be busily entering silent auction items into the computer system and combining silent auction items by bid number. By the time you CHECK OUT, we should have a list of all your purchases and your items ready for you to take home.

Q: Is it too late to RSVP to the Auction?

A: NO, we would prefer you RSVP by Tuesday, March 15 -- we need to get numbers to the Hyatt for dinners.  If you are thinking of coming, PLEASE RSVP as soon as you can this will speed up your CHECK IN process, your bid number will be waiting for you, your dinner will be waiting for you; once you RSVP all you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the evening!  There are a lot of parents/staff members coming without spouses, talk to your friends, sit at their table, invite a neighbor...

Q: Do I have to dress formally?

A: Of course not! Some people will because they have fancy clothes in the back of their closet begging for one more night out. Other people will just want to be comfortable so they can relax and have a good time. We don't care what you wear, we just want you to join us!

Q: Do I have to purchase an item?

A: NO, just come and support the students and staff, get to know other parents in the school and enjoy the evening. Nobody but you will know you didn't purchase items... and you can skip the CHECK OUT line. HOWEVER, you may not be able to help but bid on items as starting bids are about 30% the value of each item AND there are SO MANY great items to choose from.
