How does the Bellevue Schools Foundation make a difference? Students at schools across the district benefit from the programs funded by Bellevue Schools Foundation. At Somerset we have received:
Enrichment and Innovation Grants: Bring enriching activities and innovative learning opportunities to Bellevue Students. During the year 2010-2011
- Somerset received a shared grant of $1,615 for LIDAR maps for the school library
- Somerset received a grant of $625.28 for enriching and interactive texts to encourage struggling readers to develop their skills
- Somerset received a grant of $425.00 for kindergarteners to learn about the ocean and improve their science skills by taking a field trip to Alki Beach
- Somerset received a grant of $386.37 for third graders to identify rocks on the Snoqualmie River
- Somerset received a grant of $500.00 for fifth grade performance of a 13 Colonies Musical Play
Differentiated Learning Initiative: BSF is committed to putting all students on the path to college, regardless of their learning style. This instruction will challenge high performing students, help struggling students meet academic standards, and engage students at every level to realize their full potential.
Somerset received a grant of $630.00 to plan and implement school specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely (SMART) Goals as part of this initiative.
Curriculum & Technology
VIBES - Volunteers in Bellevue's Education System: places over 400 trained, caring volunteers in schools yearly. BSF funds recruitment, training, and tracking outcomes. Somerset has 18 VIBES mentors working with students.
National Board Certification: Studies show that students of National Board Certified (NBC) teachers score 7-15% higher on tests than other students. Over the last five years, BSF has invested over $600,000.00 to support Bellevue teachers pursuing NBC, who have achieved a success rate of over twice the national average. Somerset has 10 NBC teachers on staff
