Classroom Art Docent Volunteers Needed...
Do you love art? Would you like to share your
love of art in your child's classroom? If you answered yes to
either question, then please consider being an art imagination
volunteer. No formal training is necessary. What counts is
your enthusiasm and imagination.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone! No art background or experience is necessary. Ideas, training, and materials are provided by the PTSA.
What do art volunteers do? Volunteers research artists and
artwork, create an art discussion, and provide a follow-up art project
if time allows.
How much time is involved? About one hour,
once a month in the classroom. Outside preparation time which will vary
depending on your own interest in the subject.
Art Imagination’s purpose is to introduce art
appreciation to children through seeing, talking, and doing art. The art
imagination volunteer usually presents one or more art pieces with some
background information. The children will make comments on what they see
in the art pieces. When time allows, the children make a related art or
craft project.
Somerset has a collection of art prints, books, and
resource materials you can use to help you create an art discussion and
art project. Additionally, the Somerset school library has books with
art project ideas.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to attend an art docent training workshop on October 15, 2005 in Duvall, WA at the Northwest Art Center. We will meet at Somserset School and carpool to the Northwest Art Center. The workshop starts at 9:30am and ends at 12:30pm.
If you are interested in being a volunteer, please
